The FFEM publishes a new capitalisation on Marine Protected Areas (MPAs)

The oceans serve as climate regulators and are pivotal to the food security of many populations; they are immense biodiversity reservoirs and essential to sustaining life on Earth. However, they are subject to a number of pressures and are severely threatened. In order to preserve them, MPAs have been recognised as key biodiversity conservation strategies. Besides their role in environmental protection, they can also be instrumental in the socio-economic development of the populations living there. This dual impact of conservation and development perfectly embodies the double mandate espoused by the FFEM since its foundation.

For 25 years, the FFEM has financed and supported AMP projects in various regions around the world. Armed with this experience, it has decided to launch a capitalisation and feedback exercise encompassing over 40 projects, to share the knowledge acquired, lessons learned and recommendations made. The purpose of this capitalisation is to compile and disseminate the information gathered when implementing projects, to facilitate upscaling for the most innovative solutions. This publication targets practitioners and decision-makers, and should help guide future action for preserving marine resources and developing the corresponding populations.
