A new lateral electrification project in Madagascar
Published on

The FFEM has today signed a new financing agreement with the Franco-Malagasy company Nanoé, in order to improve access to electricity in the north of the country.
On 8 June 2021, the financing agreement for the lateral electrification project in rural northern Madagascar was signed by Stéphanie Bouziges-Eschmann, the FFEM Secretary-General, and Nanoé SAS President, Nicolas Saincy, at the FFEM headquarters in Paris.
Spearheaded by the Franco-Malagasy company, Nanoé, the project develops decentralised and digital electricity infrastructures in northern Madagascar using renewable energy. Thanks to the installation of solar panel-powered nano-grids, up to 40,000 users will have access to electricity.
The aim of this project is to enable local entrepreneurs trained by Nanoé to roll out these nano-networks and expand this energy solution throughout the north of the country.
Since its creation in 1994, the FFEM has supported projects that prioritise the energy transition, low carbon solutions and that guarantee access for all to reliable and sustainable energy services.
