Private Sector initiative in the area of adaptation to climate change: launch of the 5th FISP-Climat call for projects

FFEM is launching the 5th call for projects for its FISP-Climat program, to support the private sector in its innovations in the area of climate change, launched for the benefit of developing countries.
In this call for projects, FFEM is specifically targeting projects for adaptation to climate change.
What is the FISP-Climat?
The FISP-Climat aims to promote innovations in the climate change sector, led by private actors and developed in an eligible country, in partnership with local actors.
A leverage effect is sought through the active mobilization of private actors from the sector, but also through the contribution of additional financing from the companies themselves or other investors. The FISP-Climat will ensure that it supports sustainable projects. The projects selected will need to sustainably fit in with the regulatory, economic, social and cultural context of the host country.

Who can respond to the FISP-Climat 2018 call for projects?
Any private company, or consortium including at least one private company, is invited to submit its project by filling in an application form online, by 4 June 2018 – 12:00, Paris time (www.ffem.fr).
What are the eligibility criteria for projects financed in 2018?
Projects eligible for the FISP-2018 will include the issue of adaptation to climate change in a crosscutting manner in beneficiary countries. Projects that contribute to the adjustment of ecological, economic, social and/or human systems in response to current or future climate change, and its direct and secondary impacts, will be considered as adaptation projects. The projects considered will contribute to the adaptation of processes, practices, structures or techniques to mitigate the potential damage related to the impacts of climate change, or take advantage of the potential opportunities related to climate change.
What are the eligible thematic areas?
The following thematic areas are specifically targeted:
- Resilient agriculture and ecosystems
- Planning resilience and climate services
- Climate risk finance and insurance
Priority will be given to projects including nature-based solutions or with potential positive co-benefits for biodiversity.
Crosscutting approaches on several thematic areas are also eligible, as well as sustainable development or climate change mitigation projects with potential co-benefits for adaptation to climate change, or including a climate change adaptation component.
What are the eligible geographical areas?
The eligible geographical areas in order of priority are:
- Least Developed Countries
- Countries in the African and Mediterranean Region
- Other developing countries
What innovations are targeted?
The innovations targeted must correspond to new operational methods, technical processes, organizational mechanisms or partnerships. The innovations targeted must create new dynamics and play a driving role in a specific sector of development and the protection of the global environment.
Beneficiaries of the FISP-Climate 2018 are companies with the capacities and tools required to conduct processes for innovation and consultation with the member institutions of FFEM (problematization, design, experimentation, evaluation, capitalization, dissemination, scaling-up, partnerships for development…) in specialized areas of expertise.
These companies will be selected on the basis of:
- Their knowledge of the local context, with at least working experience in developing countries;
- Their experience in conducting multi-partner projects or projects which have led to the marketing of a product or solution in the country of implementation of the project or in a comparable context.
