Sustainable urban territories
Through the operations it finances, FFEM aims to contribute to decarbonizing energy production and improving energy efficiency in developing countries, with a view to providing sustainable access to energy for all.
FFEM takes action to address the challenge of environmentally-friendly urban growth, which makes populations resilient to the impacts of climate change and guarantees them a better quality of life.
THE CHALLENGES
The challenge of sustainable urban growth, which brings about opportunities and not exclusion, is resilient to climate change and based on sustainable models, is huge.
By 2030, nearly all world population growth will take place in cities, in particular in countries in the South, and mainly in informal or precarious neighborhoods.
This urban growth offers opportunities for the populations it attracts, but can also bring about strong inequalities, vulnerabilities and risks: social, political, economic and environmental.
At the same time, climate change permanently transforms the urban environment and is likely to cause large-scale natural disasters in the coming décades.
THE APPROACH
FFEM focuses its activity on four areas to ensure this sustainability of urban territories:
- Strategic urban planning integrating the fight against climate change
- The development of natural and semi-natural spaces in cities
- The promotion of a “sustainable” renovation of neighborhoods with unsafe housing
- The management of waste and chemical pollutants
